Dávid Nóra: „Istent sajátságos módon tisztelik” – Az esszénusokról a források tükrében

„Their piety towards God, it is very extraordinary” – The Essenes in the Light of the Sources
The Essenes are one of the mysteries of ancient Jewish history. Although several auctors mentioned them while describing the Jewish groups of their era, the image painted by them is not complete and is disputed at several points. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the excavation of Khirbet Qumran raised more questions about them. The present study summarizes what we know about the Essenes both from the literary sources and the archaeological evidence. While trying to place this community within second Temple Judaism, the article aims to draw attention to the difficulties of the research and some questions still left open.
